Careers

Great Schools North Carolina (GSNC) is a nonprofit organization working to support proven charter school leaders across the state in taking on challenges related to new school launches, school quality, and facilities. It takes a dedicated, talented, and diverse group to bring our vision to life.

Who You Are

You might be a good fit if you are:

  • Passionate about making a difference for children, families, and communities across the state. North Carolina has a strong history of school choice and over 210 public charter schools. GSNC will partner with the most forward-thinking leaders and organizations in the charter sector to continue to improve school quality and expand access to high-quality seats in the communities that need it most.

  • A proud resident of North Carolina or willing to spend time here to build deep and lasting relationships. Schools are community institutions and GSNC will help them deepen their impact by building trust and maintaining a regular presence in schools. Some roles will involve significant travel to schools; all roles will convene at least quarterly for team meetings.

  • Excited about building a new, sustainable organization from scratch. We need founding team members who can envision a better future for the children of North Carolina, while also building a well-resourced and stable environment for team members and the school leaders we serve.

  • A mid-level or senior-level professional with functional expertise and skills aligned to one or more of our areas of program and operational needs.

Working at Great Schools North Carolina

The work environment at GSNC will be one that supports you as both a professional and as a whole human, and in turn contributes to the long-term sustainability of our team. We understand that you are a passionate, experienced individual with a life outside of work. We want to take care of each other so we can best serve our state and live out our mission. This work environment will look like:

  • A shared definition of success focused on outcomes and collaboration rather than inputs like number of hours.

  • Generous compensation and benefits packages including a commitment to customized professional development for each team member.

  • A mostly NC-based team with no physical office. The entire team will get together at least quarterly in rotating locations. Depending on scope of work, some team members may also have extensive local travel to visit schools.

  • Each team member will have a role and title, but everyone will share skills and knowledge generously to serve charter school leaders and students to the best of our collective ability.

  • A collective interest in reflection and continuous improvement, both personally and as an organization.
